Lessons Learned

Tomorrow Little Dude will be 6 months old. I've decided to put down a few things I have learned in the past 6 months in relation to Little Dude.

- 6 months ago yesterday: It felt like I was never going to have my baby. Lesson: Things happen in their own time. Good things come to those who wait.

- 6 months ago today: The Daddy & I decided to play Wii Sports Resort. Little did I know that in doing so it would cause me to go into labor. Lesson: Expect the unexpected. Always be prepared.

- 6 months ago tomorrow: I met Little Dude for the first time. Lesson: Love at first sight does exist.

- 5 months ago: Sleepless nights and midnight feedings were routine. Lesson: Ask for help if you need it. And it is okay to cry sometimes.

- 4 months ago: One little smile melted my heart. Lesson: Appreciate the small things.

- 3 months ago: Little Dude began sleeping through the night & was moved to his own room. Lesson: Take time to get one extra minute of cuddling in because before long they will be too busy for cuddles.

- 2 months ago: Food was introduced to Little Dude for the first time. Lesson: Make messes. It's more fun that way.

- 1 month ago: Little Dude discovered that he could roll across the room. Lesson: Don't leave dog toys or shoes within rolling distance unless you want them covered in slobber.

- Today: Little Dude giggles, laughs and plays every day. Lesson: Don't take life too seriously. And if you do get upset, hugs are a great remedy!

Rescuers

Little Dude and Mommy were rescuers yesterday. Since it was such a nice day, I strapped Little Dude into his jogging stroller and went for a run. We have a nice trail just down the street so it is very convenient. As we were going along, we started to hear some dogs bark. No big deal, there are plenty of dogs in the backyards that back up to the trail. Strangely the barks kept getting louder.

We were close to a busy intersection when I noticed there was a lab/heeler mix and a little apricot poodle running down the alley by the trail. I saw that they had tags on and somehow convinced the lab/heeler to come over to me. I called the number on the tag & asked the lady if she had two dogs & described them. She said she did and explained she was at the hospital with her father but would get her neighbor to come get them. The poodle thought it was a game when I first tried to get her. Little Dude thought it was hilarious that we were chasing after the dog. He was giggling and having the time of his life! I asked for the poodle's name so I could hold the dog while we were waiting. The poodle came right over when I called her name & rested peacefully in my arms. The lab/heeler laid at my feet by the stroller.

It ended up that the neighbor was across town, so the owner called back and asked if I would hold the dogs until she could get back. After about 30 minutes, she finally showed up and took the dogs. Since we have a little dog of our own, I could imagine how it would be to have mine run away. Hopefully if our dog ever gets out we will have the luck that this woman did!

Little Dude really enjoyed going for the jog (especially the dog chasing part of it). We are looking forward to more nice days so we can put more miles on the stroller! (But I'd be okay with not having to rescue any more dogs)

Clumsy Feet

Little Dude got a present from his Poppers last week. Poppers bought him a pair of Converse All Star high tops. I hate feet, but these make me want to eat his feet because they are so cute!! I can only hope that he is able to use his feet to avoid accidents more so than his mommy does.

If you know this mommy at all, then you know how accident prone I am. This week has been a week of many accidents. On Tuesday night, Little Dude was getting a bath. I leaned on the tub to sit down and my hand slipped. BAM! I landed completely on my left arm right in the middle of my forearm. Today it is a nice yellow/brown color.

On Friday, a pair of my high heels decided to be suicidal and took a plunge off of my top shelf. Not a big deal, right? It wouldn't have been if my pinky toe hadn't decided that it needed to be a hero. Somehow my foot jumped to save the falling shoe so now I have a nice bruise on my right pinky toe. Hopefully Little Dude won't follow in his mommy's footsteps of being completely accident prone!

Long Trip

Little Dude and I made the very long trip across state lines to surprise his Great-Great Granny. She has never met him, so we went with Grammy & Grampa for a surprise visit. It was so special seeing her face light up when she saw him for the first time.

I don't think words could even describe how happy she was!
While we were in town, we also took a 5 generation photo. It's so rare to be able to have one of these, so we will treasure this picture for a long time! We have (from left to right) Grampa, Great Uncle B (in place of my Granny), Great Great Granny, Little Dude, and the Mommy.

As a side note, that was a LONG car ride and I don't think we will be doing that again for quite some time. Traveling with a baby (even Little Mr. Perfect) is too much for this mommy, especially when the daddy isn't there to help!

Squirmy Big Boy

Little Dude is very busy, all the time. It is quite obvious in this picture what a wiggle worm he is! Well that or he is super super fast. I think either one would accurately describe him.
The past two nights, Little Dude has squirmed all around and ended up in the most odd positions. When I went to get him up yesterday, he was sideways in the crib and on his belly! (Mind you, we are BIG followers of the Back to Sleep campaign & always put him on his back) Then today, he was upside down in the crib from how he started. He is so funny to watch while he is up playing. He usually ends up squirming and rolling so much that he ends up in a really awkward corner. Then it is mommy (or daddy) to the rescue. At least he still needs us for something!

We decided to see how he would do with sippy cups this week. We offered him water in a soft top one. He didn't really like it. So we gave him the harder top sippy cup. This mommy just *knew* that he wasn't going to take it.
Yeah.... the score is now Mommy - 0 Little Dude - 2
I think he just likes to prove me wrong.

A New Year

2009 - What a year. It was a good year for us. We went to London to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. We had our first born beautiful bundle of joy aka Little Dude. We went on our first family vacation (even if it was just for 2 days). We spent time with family & friends. The Longhorns went undefeated (trust me....this is really good for our household). I feel VERY lucky to have the life that I have.

It is hard to believe that it is already 2010! Just one year ago I was wondering if I was ever going to look pregnant. Now I'm wondering where the past year went! The past few weeks have been a whirlwind! This last week has been especially busy. Here is a short recap:

Little Dude now has a little cousin. He made his entrance 3 weeks early.
Meet The Cousin:

Little Dude discovered two amazing things: bath toys and SPLASHING. Oooh what fun they are. He loves to splash with his feet.

Little Dude got to meet his 3rd cousin (I do believe I am correct, but I have been known to be wrong before). She is so adorable. The cutest thing these two did was "shake hands". Too. Much. Cuteness.
And last but certainly not least, Aunt M & Uncle T got married!! Sidenote: While reading over this, I was very tempted to change this to Mr. T. Uncle T, you may have a new nickname on here.
Congrats to Uncle J & Aunt K on The Cousin and Congrats to Aunt M & Mr. T Uncle T on their wedding! Can we try to make this week not so exciting? This Mommy needs a break!
